The name Goodnight Sweetheart (GNSH) was created by Joseph the founder of Jiveswing.com, whose favourite sit-com was Goodnight Sweetheart. The leading character would time travel between modern day and the 1940s enjoying a split life in the 2 decades. Joseph thought he could do the same, by having workshops in the modern day, then transform the evening into a 1940's atmosphere.
The camp first started as a one-off non-profit fun event on Valentines weekend in February 2002, at our humble, local class venue in Digswell and a local Pub, with mainly our students and others from around the UK and two international dancers. We were well and truly out of pocket, but had so much fun. 152 people attended in total and due to popular demand, GNSH quickly became an annual event.
In 2003 we hired a local school, with 300 dancers attending during the day and nearly 400 dancers swinging away at the 1940's Valentines Ball. In 2004 we moved to Hertfordshire University, where the number of international dancers increased by 2005.
Due to the university floor being carpeted, in 2006 we made a huge investment and moved to the Grand venue Haileybury. 2007 & 08 was our most successful years, with dancers from nearly 23 countries including: USA, Canada, Norway, Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland, Russia, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Demark, Australia, Sweden, Argentina, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Catalonia, New Zealand, Belgium, Slovenia and of course England.
Whilst GNSH weekend has been fortunate to have sold out each year, people tell us that it still retains it's friendliness, intimacy, fun personality and its unique electric atmosphere in the evenings. Why not click here to see what others have to say or about GNSH 2008
