SYLVIA SYKES

For the time, we are proud to present to you, from the USA, our latest GNSH Virgin and Queen of Balboa, Ms Sylvia Sykes.

Sylvia, is an internationally recognized authority on various forms Swing Dances and has been teaching all over the globe, throughout the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, since 1985.

She studied Lindy Hop with the likes of 'Dean Collins', and was a member of his last dance troupe.

Sylvia also studied Balboa with Maxie Dorf and Willie Desatoff and spent years learning from the greatest Southern California Balboa dancers.

Sylvia is an inductee into the National Swing Dance Hall of Fame as well as the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. She won the US Open twice, was the NASDE top point winner, third place in the National Carolina Shag Dance Championships, won many Strictly Swing contests in Lindy, Balboa and West Coast Swing through the US.

She has competed in numerous dance competitions, appeared on television, been featured with orchestras such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, and Count Basie, as well as being voted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame as well as the National Swing Dance Hall of Fame.

Sylvia will be teaching Balboa at GNSH, but also working with Skye Humphries to create a fresh partnership at GNSH for Lindy Hop.
